While the rest of the year might present fewer opportunities to get eyes on your products, the holiday season provides opportunities for more traffic (of both the in-person and online variety). Me? I've put together my own little #shoplocal #supportsmall wishlist, just in time for Christmas.
Anything Leather from Lilyan James
I met Lindsey -- designer-in-chief and owner of Lilyan James -- a few years ago when each of us operated out of a coworking space in Nashville. Ever since, I have been impressed with Lindsey's sense of style -- not to mention her sweet nature! Every Lilyan James piece is cut and sewn in the US. And, somehow, each piece has a classic look while still maintaining a modern edge. See for yourself.
Seraphine Designs Earrings
Scroll through the Seraphine Designs Instagram feed and you'll notice a sparkling stone that appears in many of her pieces. That's Peruvian Pyrite, and it's gorgeous. Plus, you can mix and match many of the earrings and jackets. Win.
Detroit Dough Cookies
Confession: I've been really into cookies this season. More so eating them than making them. Because with presents to buy and wrap and family to see, who has time to bake? Enter Detroit Dough. Another awesome Instagram feed displays their custom sugar cookies. (I'm partial to these.)
Nisolo Boots
If you're not familiar with the mission of Nisolo, get on it. In a nutshell, Nisolo producers receive, at a minimum, beyond fair trade wages, healthcare, and a healthy working environment. After purchasing my first pair over the summer (the Serena Sandals), I was hooked. Now, I need the Dari Boots in my life. NEED! (Ok, ok, want.)
Detroit Denim
Don't get me wrong, I used to shop for my jeans exclusively at Express. It was cheap and easy. But since I've grown up a little and began caring a little bit more about where my clothing comes from, I've discovered Detroit Denim. The quality is outstanding, and many of their products come subject to a complimentary lifetime repair policy.
Consider the Wldflwrs
No, that's not a typo. Consider the Wldflwrs is a jeweler nestled in North Nashville. Her simple designs are so beautiful and include rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. It's classic, quality jewelry that you can wear for a very long time, because it will never go out of style.
Shinola Watch
Why buy a Rolex when you can get a cooler, locally-manufactured watch? I have to admit that ever since Shinola began appearing on the radar, I've carried a certain sense of pride (hailing from the Detroit area myself). The company opened in Detroit around five years ago with the goal of bringing manufacturing jobs back to the city. All pieces are hand-assembled by artisans in Detroit.
